Rehmatullah Mirbahar, a 34-year-old artist from a remote village in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, has gained viral fame for using artificial intelligence (AI) to reimagine life in Mohenjo Daro, one of the most impressive monuments from the beginning of human civilization. Despite facing criticism from his family for purchasing a computer, Mirbahar, who works as a computer operator at the Thatta district health department, taught himself how to use AI tools to create art through websites and YouTube tutorials. His images of Mohenjo Daro have received widespread praise, surprising and delighting the artist.
Mohenjo Daro, which dates back to 2500-1500 BC and was abandoned before being rediscovered in 1921, is one of the largest settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and one of the world's earliest major cities. Mirbahar created the images in a small room in his office building in Makli, close to an ancient cemetery that contains half a million tombs and graves and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Initially, he did not upload the images as he did not believe people would like them.
